If you’re a tech-savvy network administrator, whether for your home, or for a larger corporate network, you’ve probably used traceroute to find the source of network packet loss or latency issues. If you’re especially experienced, you’ve probably used the best traceroute tool of all, MTR. What MTR does is continuously run traceroutes to a given host, and as data is returned, it is visualized live on a chart. I’ve personally used MTR on many occasions where I needed to monitor the status of a network outage or issue for a corporate network. In fact, after discovering MTR, I never went back to the old traceroute command again.

I always wanted an MTR-like client for Android, and would have happily paid a high price for it to be able to keep the live report handy when I was away from my desk. Despite that, nobody ever came forward with anything comparable (although the best network multi-tool I ever found was PingTools). So I decided it was time to change that.
